Health and Wellbeing

At Newtownhamilton Primary School, the wellbeing of our pupils and staff is a top priority. We are committed to creating a safe, secure, and happy environment where everyone can thrive both physically and mentally.
We understand the value of fresh air and physical activity, which is why we make the most of outdoor opportunities. Whether it’s outdoor play, the Daily Mile, or sports like football and hockey on our 2G pitch, we encourage active lifestyles.
To further support our pupils’ wellbeing, we regularly welcome external facilitators such as Relax Kids, The Dairy Council, Jeannie Graham, Happy Hopeful Minds, REIM, and the NSPCC. These sessions complement our in-class PDMU and Safeguarding lessons, offering pupils a well-rounded approach to health and wellbeing.
Our strong community links also play a vital role. Local ministers visit weekly to lead assemblies, and we enjoy visits from the PSNI and Fire Service. We also take part in community events, including trips to local churches for special occasions like the flower festival.

Meet our Wellbeing Champions
Our Wellbeing Champions volunteered themselves to ensure that everyone is happy and content in the playground.

Wellbeing Wednesday
In Term 1 we came together as a school family for Wellbeing Wednesday. Mental Health Heroes helped us to think about different ways that we could support our mental health.
Each week we met a new Mental Health Hero who helped us to defeat the Negatron though mindfulness, breathing and positive thinking.
In the end we realised that we could be our own Superhero.

Helping Hands
In Term 2 we are working our way through the Women's Aid, Helping Hands programme. It addresses challenging issues around personal space, safety planning and awareness of acceptable and unacceptable behaviours, not only in others but also in themselves.
